We have much to Celebrate

We have completed the transition to our New Community Space! - community.perma.earth

The International Permaculture CoLab is one step closer to having a full suite of open source ethical tools the latest being the replacement of Slack with the Community Space on Discourse.

If Slack was keeping you away from becoming a member you can watch a tour around the new community space here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PD316nsQI5Y

The Next Steps Project is at an end!

Year 3 brought steady delivery across the Next Steps projects, with progress spread across community infrastructure, learning, tools, and practical implementation.

Several teams focused on strengthening the CoLab’s foundations through services. Welcoming and onboarding was held consistently, including the transition to the Community Space (Discourse), delivery of mid year and end of year forums, and improvements that helped new members navigate and participate more confidently. Digital services continued to meet community needs with a strong ethics focus, while platform work also supported the ongoing maintenance and handover of key database and support functions.

A second cluster of work produced long lasting resources. Communications and outreach improved the website structure and user journey, added new pages and a clearer resource hub, expanded social media and newsletter consistency, and built cross network relationships that shifted outreach from cold calling towards network weaving. Convergence research built relationships with organisers and the IPC Council and released practical resources to support future convergence work.

Learning and capability building also advanced. The training programme was exceptional, a peer review process is underway, we had had strong assets, and clearer insight into pacing, cadence, and how to sustain learning culture. Open badges work delivered a prototype, onboarding and feedback with multiple organisations, governance and continuity planning, and stronger sector engagement, while recognising adoption needs structured onboarding and time.

Impact and evaluation support tested action learning approaches, supported grassroots projects to create evaluation plans, and co created multilingual tools, while learning that capacity building takes longer than hoped. Practical solutions work maintained infrastructure, improved soil and biodiversity, ran a fellowship, and navigated the realities of farming risk and maintenance costs. Funding work strengthened the database and created the first set of fundraising collateral, while highlighting the difficulty of the current funding environment and the need for stronger programme development pathways.

It has been a very productive 3 years and we have collectively produced over 100 community owned resources! You will be able to find these in the Resources section on the CoLab website. More will be published in the coming weeks so stay tuned as we feature them in the coming months in this newsletter.

We need You!

The International Permaculture CoLab is what the members make of it and at the moment we have many areas which are ripe for more of you to become involved.

These include the incubation of a Research, Training and Education Circle, Ethical Livelihood activities such as Nice Jobs - a space for job seekers who are looking for ethical paid work and permaculture enterprise incubation work.

There are many volunteer roles open and emergent circles waiting for people with capacity and energy to go forward including in the Welcome Circle, the Funding Circle and the Communication, Engagement and Outreach Circle.

We are also keen to open up our collaboration channels with permaculture and aligned associations, communities and other networks to share our resources, digital tools and amplify our impact.

Resource of the Month

Community Organisation Templates

Many communities, associations and networks spend significant amounts to time to put together community organisation documents. The International Permaculture CoLab has published 8 templates you can use for your community, you can adapt each one of these to your own community needs.

These documents give you a starting point so that you don't have to reinvent the wheel.
Interested in adding your resources to the commons? Send us your creations to contact@perma.earth and we will review them and add them onto the Downloadable Resources Section on perma.earth.
