A Message from the Soil Food Web

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our Founder, Dr. Elaine Ingham, on February 17, 2026. Elaine was more than a groundbreaking microbiologist - she was a teacher, mentor, and tireless advocate for soil health.

Through her work on the soil food web, Elaine opened our eyes to the incredible life beneath our feet and inspired farmers, scientists, and students around the world to care for soil as the foundation of healthy ecosystems. She made complex science accessible, showing us that healthy soil is not just about crops - it’s about communities, sustainability, and our shared future.

Elaine’s energy, curiosity, and generosity touched so many. She is survived by her husband, two children, two grandchildren, and a beloved granddog. Her family asks that, in her memory, we plant a tree or support the Soil Food Web Foundation to carry forward her life’s work.

Elaine leaves behind a legacy that will continue to grow - literally and figuratively - for generations to come.

CoLab Updates

The Grow Project is now underway. Teams within the CoLab are busy forming their team agreements and evaluation and impact documents. In the CoLab community space, members are now reviewing the CoLab's vision, mission and aims. There have been updates to the CoLab User Guide to reflect the move to the new community space on Discord.

We look forward to seeing all the great work that will unfold over the coming months. If you are not yet a member of the CoLab, you can find more information about our onboarding journey by clicking the button below!

What is an Ethical Micro-Enterprise within the International Permaculture CoLab - Booklet

A short PDF booklet that gives people information about what a CoLab micro-enterprise is. It discusses the CoLab’s vision, mission and aims, ethical principles for micro-enterprises, permaculture ethics, CoLab members, and tools used by the CoLab.
