Utah State University: Global Professional Permaculture Pathways Survey
If you’ve completed a Permaculture Design Course, you probably remember that moment of possibility: the feeling that you’d found something that could genuinely change the world, and your place in it.
You may also remember what came after. For many, the path from PDC graduate to working practitioner has been anything but clear. Too often, people with real skill and deep commitment are left to figure it out alone, with little guidance on how to incorporate permaculture into a livelihood that actually sustains them.
USU is conducting the first major global study of professional permaculture pathways, and we need to hear from people who’ve lived it: the breakthroughs, the dead ends, what helped, and what was missing, to answer the question: how can aspiring permaculture professionals be better supported to build viable livelihoods?
Your responses will directly shape recommendations for better post-PDC support, professional development pathways, and educational design. This survey is People Care in action.

With appreciation, Jason Gerhardt (Permaculture Institute, Inc.), Javan K Bernakevitch (All Points Land Design), and Roslynn Brain McCann (USU Extension Permaculture).

Seeing the world differently - Introduction to Permaculture 10 hour online course
Many of us are living through a time of deep uncertainty. Climate emergency, political instability, economic pressure, and a growing sense that the systems we rely on are no longer serving life. Alongside this, I hear a persistent yearning for change. Not just surface change, but a deeper shift in how we live, work, and relate to the world around us.
Permaculture is often misunderstood as being only about gardening, but at its heart permaculture is a way of seeing the world differently. It offers tools and principles for designing our activities, our surroundings, and our relationships in ways that reconnect us to nature and to each other. It helps us understand systems, patterns, limits, and possibilities, and invites us back into a sense of belonging within the living world.
This course is designed for people who are curious, questioning, and looking for frameworks that make sense of the challenges of our time.
This course is certified and peer reviewed by the International Permaculture CoLab.
• Three live sessions of two hours each • Four hours of guided reflection and student work • An introduction to permaculture ethics, principles, social permaculture, and a practical design framework
Sessions will be held: 23 & 30 May, 6 June - 09:00 - 11:00 CET
Course fee: 80 GBP
If you feel pulled towards taking this course but cannot stretch to cover the full fee you can contact us on the Minimum Viable Academy website - same as the registration link.

International Permaculture Convergence
7-15 November 2026
In November 2026, Thailand will have the honor of hosting the International Permaculture Convergence (IPC). This is a global gathering of permaculture practitioners, designers, enthusiasts, and people who care about the future of the world and who live according to the three Ethics of Permaculture: People Care, Earth Care and Fair Share.
The IPC is normally held every two years in a different location worldwide. This will be the first time the IPC has been held in Thailand. To make the most of Thailand’s position as a major food producer and foodie paradise, the IPC will include many food-related topics such as: Local food systems, regenerative agriculture, food forests, indigenous food heritage, farming for the future, soil restoration, sustainable agriculture, and food as medicine, as well as principles of the "Self-Sufficiency Economy".

Resource of the Month
Workshop:
Active and Responsible Participation in Open Governance
This months resource is a document detailing the 90-minute MVA workshop on active and responsible participation in open governance. It includes links to the session design, and to a recording of the workshop instructions as well as takeaways from the participants.
If you are already familiar with open governance models, this workshop is for you. In this workshop we lean into sociocracy 3.0. However, the session is relevant to other governance and organisational models as well. In fact, any model that involves self-organising and depends on community engagement and collective responsibility can benefit from considering the topics in this workshop for their own groups and communities. If you are not already familiar with open governance, we recommend you first attend our session about Creating and Maintaining a Sociocratic Ecosystem before diving into this material.
