Description
The “Action Guide to Inclusive Implementation in Self-organised Spaces” is a written resource (PDF) produced by the Applied Permaculture in Communities (APIC) team within the International Permaculture CoLab. It combines a conceptual framework (eight “Dimensions of Inclusivity”), a visual self-assessment radar tool, and a catalogue of 21 concrete, low-to-high effort interventions with cost/impact/skill ratings, links to editable self assessment tool, and a step-by-step decision process for choosing and sequencing interventions. It is designed for small, self-organised, values-driven groups (e.g. cooperatives, NGOs, grassroots networks, DAOs, volunteer projects) working with limited resources who want to turn inclusive values into practical implementation
CoLab working groups, project teams, and partners can use the guide as a shared reference point to assess their current practice, identify priority gaps in inclusivity, and choose realistic experiments rather than trying to “do everything” at once. The radar assessment, intervention ratings, and decision tree make it easier for teams to align on where to start, communicate trade-offs transparently, and document learning over time, supporting more robust internal culture and safer collaboration in distributed projects. For the wider permaculture movement, the guide offers an openly licensed toolkit that translates abstract commitments to care, equity, and diversity into actionable organisational design. It can be adapted by local hubs, teaching centres, and networks to improve accessibility of courses, events, governance and community spaces, and to cross-pollinate practices such as participatory budgeting, hybrid-by-default meetings, language justice, and psychological-safety rituals across different regions and contexts.
