Description
A set of recommendations that summarises the most suitable candidate(s) that can be used instead of Slack. The set of recommendations will include the comparison of the features, the ethical impact of transitioning to each, and the ease of migration.
Supporting multi-billion dollar corporations is incompatible with the ideals of Permaculture (PC). In the example of Slack, which is owned by Salesforce, their yearly revenue in 2024 was $ 34.86 billion – income $ 4.136 billion. On one hand we have corporations that do not listen to users and are purely driven by profit. On the other hand we have 1-person hobby projects that are unable to deliver features that people need. Between them there exists a layer of groups that make software that delivers features without being focused on profit. To figure out how good, or how close, could we come to an ideal that aligns with PC while still delivering most of the feature set that people are used to and consider necessary. Groups that develop software also have non-monetary values that differ from one project to another. Investigating how well they align with the values of PC would be beneficial.
