Convergence organisers and participants will benefit from this work with access to learnings from previous experiences and recommendations. By working with members of PIRN, IPCC and others we will be strengthening the collaboration bonds between teams whilst working towards a common goal. We will also be raising the visibility of CoLab in the larger permaculture community.
A design and collection of effective practices and most common challenges, feedback that convergence organisers can refer to when preparing online and blended convergences and that other permaculture colab Circles and organizers can integrate into strategy about services to offer to organizers in the permaculture movement.
– Springboard from findings in case studies performed in the previous research phase.
– Ongoing identification of convergences to include in proceeding stages of research.
– Share findings of the research using a variety of methods.
– Perform outreach via a diversity of channels and methods, within and beyond CoLab.
– Collaborate with the CoLab “Global Permaculture Movement Map” and “Permaculture Convergence website aggregator” activities.
The initiated collaboration with the Permaculture Convergence Website and the Global Permaculture Movement Map teams will prove to be key in the next year to share future developed resources further, especially with event organisers.
The CoLab communications team has assisted in handling external and internal communications with CoLab members and perma.earth newsletter readers.
1. Training resources for event organizers.
2. Outreach from the research team.
3. External Research through consultants/existing organisers of events.
4. Case studies to check hypothesis (eg. problem = lack of training on subject a, > provided with training > how has this changed from starting point).
The Convergence Research team has partnered with the Permaculture Convergence website team to share resources, the research team is contributing with resources and the website team provides the infrastructure for publication and helping with the communications.

December update:
We have onboarded a new team member Cormac Harkin who worked on video editing in order to optimize the content we have for publication, to add to the conversations with convergence organisers series, 2 videos have been released and can be found on the CoLab Youtube channel here: https://youtu.be/u_JCgvlGRbg & https://youtu.be/j7hyVgydEsY
You can now participate in our research project by visiting permacultureconvergence.org and going to Research.
1. Release pubslished report for the last 2 years of research work
2. Liaise further with Permaculture Convergence Aggregator efforts
September Update
You can now participate in our research project by visiting permacultureconvergence.org and going to Research.
The website has been updated with the latest upcoming events and the history now includes events that have taken place this year.
Final Update
The convergence research team joined the permaculture convergence team to bring together an updated history of permaculture convergences and practical resources for event organisers. We have also made an effort to contact event organisers with limited success. Website visitors numbers have been steadily growing as more people become aware of the project.

For the Digital Circle support team to provide tech support to the 14th International Permaculture Convergence at various levels including:
* web development
* appropriate technology research and consultation
* support before and during the event
* support facilitation of good legacy between the current event and subsequent events
With the understanding that this work is made available to subsequent events organizers

Tech support starting immediately and coming up to the IPC14 event before and during the event as well if needed. As outlined in the description of this proposal.
Opensource documentation of the process and building of the services are we learn from this project to support future projects. Enable the IPC14 team to focus on other aspects of the event organisation. Create an opportunity for the CoLab to widen its horizons by collaborating and perhaps as we take on more work also provide additional sustainable livelihoood opportunities to new digital circle members.

This is a Three Phase project to design and catalyze an event-based economy for the Permaculture CoLab and our broader social ecosystem; to increase both quality and quantity of engagement, build relationships across aligned movements and organizations, and develop members’ capacities.
The Three Phases are:
Naomi Joy Smith, Keala Young
Diversity, Participation & Engagement, Capacity+ project
We want to design and run a solid project that accelerates Capacity+ goals by creating openings for various stakeholder groups to participate, meeting 4 core social needs: playing, learning, working & strengthening connections.
By designing guidelines and resources for events across the CoLab ecosystem, and then deliberately training CoLab members and prospective contributors in this system, we will ignite an organic increase in engagement and capacity building, driving forward a bulk of Capacity+ deliverables by applying focus on this key question: how, when and why we meet with whom, and what formats are available to work with?
A scaffolding for increasing engagement, which looks like:

The CoLab has been experimenting with its current form over the past 3-5 years. The reports from 2020 show that there are barriers to involvement with the CoLab, and other tensions within it. This is a good time to practice the core Permaculture Principle of “Accept Feedback & Apply Self-Regulation” in the CoLab ecosystem.
Building on their investment in understanding the CoLab, we are proposing to lead a Permaculture Design Process to support the CoLab to collaboratively develop the next iteration of a design for itself.
Jillian Hovey, Philipp Grunewald
Diversity, Participation & Engagement, Capacity+ project
Will be a learning journey of applying permaculture ethics, principles, and design methodologies to the needs and yields, elements and functions of the CoLab. This process will hold space for what wants to emerge, and support permaculture thinking, tools and skills to become more of a fundamental literacy & practice in the Permaculture CoLab. The intention is to “Accelerate Succession” and co-create more conscious, healthy and regenerative patterns and pathways for the Permaculture CoLab, which will support the CoLab in becoming more effective at delivering its Vision, Mission, and Aims (VMAs).
– An integral aspect of healthy systems is to have feedback loops so that the system can learn and grow in increasingly regenerative ways.
– To practice permaculture and regeneration, it is important to co-create environments where we can learn to collaboratively accept and apply feedback and self-regulate, and support the CoLab to evolve and become more effective. In doing this, we can co-create the next stages of understanding of the ecosystem that will support the value flows that will support Earth Care, People Care, and Fair Share.
– A Permaculture Design process for the CoLab, can hold space for these learning loops in a permaculture framework where we can learn together in a collaborative design process. This can stimulate and include existing and potential CoLab members to bring more of their intelligences, passions, and possibilities, to a mutually-designed and regenerative Permaculture CoLab.

Picking suitable and ethical software to create a mapping prototype for people and organizations involved in the CoLab, creating a mapping tool with Colab member and organization information to serve as a collaboration resource to all members.

Network Weaving, Capacity+ project
Research work aligns with Mapping prototype funding priority. The research and design process sets up the necessary groundwork for mapping tool utilization in creation of the mapping prototype which would clearly display members and organizations and what they bring to permaculture CoLab.
